Durance RPG

I recently finished a book cover illustration for an upcoming game book, Durance, from Bully Pulpit Games. It's not released yet, which means I haven't posted the image yet. It's planned release date is this Summer. However, here is a press release for the game where Steve from BPG says some nice things about me. Thanks Steve!

"...Jesse is technically brilliant and seems to understand the game on an almost disturbing level.”
       —Steve Segedy, Bully Pulpit Games

These are the same guys who created Fiasco, which is an amazing game. It received multiple awards and tons of critical acclaim. Based on what I have seen so far of Durance, I'm super excited to get my hands on it! You can buy Durance (when it's released) and Fiasco from the Bully Pulpit Games site. Go do it!

Things to remember

I have always been a drawer but I started painting seriously, with oils, about two years ago. In that time I have learned a lot and wanted to create a list of things to remember while I'm working. Painting is an ambiguous process and can not be quantified into rules. Rules can be and are broken. But I like to have something to fall back on when I'm feeling stuck. This is for everyone who is interested, but it's also for myself.

Third Watch process movie

So here is a small movie of the process I went through for my digital painting, Third Watch. You'll notice that at a certain point there is some backwards text in the images... this is because I decided to flip the painting about midway through, but im displaying the movie all in the final orientation. The text doesn't even end up in the final piece. That's something I do a lot... flipping the image both horizontally and vertically, back and fourth. It helps a lot to spot anatomy, tonal and other issues. It can give you a fresh perspective.

Spaceout process

So this is a sketch I did that I wanted to take a bit further. I brought it into Painter, and worked it digitally using some custom brushes, mostly markers, oils and digital watercolors. Here are some shots from the beginning, middle and the final piece. A larger image of the final piece can be found in the Drawings & Paintings gallery.

In support of the Occupy Wall Street movement

For the past couple of weeks, I have been reading aricles, talking with friends in the United States and watching clips on YouTube of the Occupy Wall Street protests. I am inspired by what im seeing and hearing from the people involved with the Occupy movement, all over the world.
